The Whakapapa whānau are a small but ambitious team, running year-round operations on the northern slopes of Mt Ruapehu. In winter, from June until October, this includes a world-class ski area. In summer, from December until April, this includes our summer sightseeing operation, heroing our iconic Sky Waka gondola. Each year we welcome hundreds of thousands of manuhiri (guests) to Whakapapa, many with life-long connections to the maunga and surrounding region, some even third or fourth generation.

The Operations Manager at Whakapapa holds a pivotal leadership position, responsible for ensuring the seamless and efficient functioning of operational and commercial aspects. This includes a specific focus on lift operations, transport and parking, snow clearing, along with the responsibility of being the Person in Charge (PIC) on designated days. As a key member of the leadership team, the Operations Manager will play a crucial role in optimizing the overall employee and guest experience, as well as the operational effectiveness of the ski area. The role reports to the General Manager of Operations and oversees a team of approximately 60 members.

Key responsibilities include:

- Ensuring that all facilities and transports are ready to operate on time.
- Ensuring compliance with all safety, environmental, and statutory requirements.
- Providing professional and efficient service to all on-mountain staff and guests.
- Communicating and monitoring performance standards.
- Being responsible for the recruitment of the team.

- Familiarity with the ski area environment and operations, along with general industry knowledge.
- Experience in leading and managing teams.
- Knowledge or familiarity with current legislation.
- Demonstrated commitment to guest service.

This is a Management Role with a salary range between $90,000 - $110,000 per annum, depending on experience.
