The Whakapapa whanau are a small but ambitious team, running year-round operations on the northern slopes of Mt Ruapehu. In winter, from June until October, this includes a world-class ski area. In summer, from December until April, this includes our summer sightseeing operation, heroing our iconic Sky Waka gondola. Each year we welcome hundreds of thousands of manuhiri (guests) to Whakapapa, many with life-long connections to the maunga (mountain) and surrounding rohe (region), some even third or fourth generation.
- Mo te tunga | About the role_

Snowmaking is one of the most unique roles of the operation of the ski area. This specialised team is responsible for making a large quantity of high-quality snow on the main trails and is responsible of maintenance of the snow guns, snow factory, waterlines, hydrants and high pressure pumps.

Key responsibilities include:

- To create maximum snow quantity as determined by weather conditions and equipment performance
- To create a high standard of snow quality, ensuring product will meet the company's requirements
- Interpret weather patterns to determine when you should shut down/ start up machinery
- Ensure equipment operating guidelines are always followed, as per the equipment operational manual
- Be familiar with and competent in undertaking machinery maintenance requirements. Ensure equipment servicing and maintenance schedule is completed, thoroughly and as required
- Safe operation of snowmobiles
- Ensure personal safety by utilising protective clothing and equipment
- Provide, assistance to your fellow team members and around the mountain at times

You must be safety conscious, able to hike and work in extreme weather conditions and have solid communication skills. As much of our snow is made at night/early morning there is plenty of time during the day for skiing/snowboarding.

Uniform for all roles is provided so you will only need to bring your base layers.

Remuneration range - $23 - $28 per hour depending on experience
