The Whakapapa whānau are a small but ambitious team, running year-round operations on the northern slopes of Mt Ruapehu. In winter, from June until October, this includes a world-class ski area. In summer, from December until April, this includes our summer sightseeing operation, heroing our iconic Sky Waka gondola. Each year we welcome hundreds of thousands of manuhiri (guests) to Whakapapa, many with life-long connections to the maunga (mountain) and surrounding region, some even third or fourth generation.

As part of the Ski Patrol Team you will play a key role in opening and managing the ski area terrain for our skiing guests. To achieve this, you will need a focus on hazard mitigation from avalanche control work to cliffs and waterfall holes, all the terrain needs to be assessed and cleared for opening. Accident prevention is a key focus alongside delivering a high level of customer service and first aid response. A wide range of mountain skills are required to effectively manage Whakapapa's terrain working in a challenging but rewarding environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Maintain safety strategies throughout the ski area terrain.
- Provide specialist emergency response care and transport.
- Assist in avalanche control and snow safety duties.

- Pre-hospital emergency care (PHEC).
- Avalanche Risk Managment level 5.
- Knowledge and experience in the Snowsports Safety Services industry.
- High level of skiing ability.
- Working at heights.
- Rope Rescue experience.
- Customer service experience.

Remuneration range - $23 - $30 per hour depending on experience
