The Whakapapa whānau are a small but ambitious team, running year-round operations on the northern slopes of Mt Ruapehu. In winter, from June until October, this includes a world-class ski area. In summer, from December until April, this includes our summer sightseeing operation, heroing our iconic Sky Waka gondola. Each year we welcome hundreds of thousands of manuhiri (guests) to Whakapapa, many with life-long connections to the maunga (mountain) and surrounding region, some even third or fourth generation.

The Lifts Supervisor(s) at Whakapapa is a pivotal leadership position responsible for ensuring our lift team safely conveys guests and staff using our lift system in a prompt, safe, and courteous manner. As a key member of the leadership team, the Lift Supervisor(s) will play a crucial role in keeping staff engaged and safe. They will work closely with the Car Parking, Ticket Validation, and Lift Maintenance teams. A willingness to work around environment, weather, and unique challenges is needed - a hearty and strong character is a must. The role reports to the Lifts Head of Department and will itself have around 15-20 team members.
Key responsibilities include:
- Ensures that the lift team has all lift requirements ready to operate on time.
- Ensures compliance with all safety, environmental and statutory requirements.
- Provide a professional and efficient service to all on mountain employees and guests.
- Ensures performance standards are clearly communicated and monitored.
- Responsible for the recruitment of the team.

- Experience with the ski area environment and lift operations knowledge.
- Experience leading and managing teams.
- Knowledge or familiarity of current legislation.
- Demonstrate commitment to guest service.

Remuneration range - this is a seasonal supervisory role with a wage range between $25 - $30 per hour.
