Te āhuatunga a te tūranga | About the Role

The purpose of the Principal Advisor Māori - Kaitohutohu Matua Māori, is to work within the Te Ao Māori team who are responsible for the overall success of NZIC's Māori capability and the embedding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles across the system.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

  • An extensive skill set in implementing a Māori strategy and leading organisational change
  • Expert understanding of Crown responsibilities under te Tiriti o Waitangi and the aspirations and needs of Māori
  • Skilled in delivering strategic programmes of work preferably in the public sector, project or programme management
  • Proficiency in te reo Māori me ōna tikanga with a passion for inspiring others to embrace te ao Māori and mātauranga Māori
  • Experience partnering with Māori communities, iwi, hapū and key Māori organisations
  • The experience to effectively manage internal and external stakeholders through trust, advocacy, and collaboration, with skills in the management of complex sets of relationships with tact and diplomacy
  • The proven skills to empower and enhance the mana of others
  • Experience in policy design is highly desirable

To be eligible for employment within the NZIC you must have been a NZ citizen for at least 10 years.

Alternatively you must hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and ideally have been a citizen of UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years.
