Mō tēnei tūranga mahi| About the role


This role forms part of a multi-disciplinary team that directly supports the Director Te Pou Matihiko, who is responsible for positioning the government, the Government Chief Digital Officer, and the Digital Public Service Branch to create and maintain strong and enduring relationships with Māori and internal and external stakeholders so that we are trusted and a respected partner and stakeholder.


As a Principal Advisor your role will include:

  • Working in partnership our partners and stakeholders ensure te ao Māori, te Tiriti o Waitangi and mātauranga is considered, understood, and reflected in the government's digital strategy and direction.
  • You will be responsible for leading the development of highquality policy advice, informed by Māori perspectives and mātauranga Māori, to Ministers.
  • You will develop highlevel, wellinformed strategic advice to support our work including Digital Identity, Digital Inclusion, and the adoption of public Cloud services.
  • You will support the Director Te Pou Matihiko to work with the Data Iwi Leaders Group, established under the National Iwi Chairs Forum, with which Te Tari Taiwhenua has a Mana Ōrite Agreement
  • Providing strategic and policy advice and support in the implementation and management of the forthcoming Digital Public Services internal Māori Crown relationship strategy plan and assist in developing strategies and initiatives to improve digital outcomes for Māori, sharing specialist te ao Māori knowledge and expertise across our key mahi.
To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Demonstrable policy experience in a relevant field.
  • Credibility and mana to influence, build and sustain good relationships with government agencies, iwi, hapū, whānau, Māori and other key stakeholder groups
  • A track record of integrating and championing Māori perspectives and te ao Māori values in key strategic programmes
  • Supportive coach and mentor for colleagues, and experience providing thought leadership and quality assurance across strategic and policy work programmes.
  • Comfortable dealing with ambiguity and providing advice based on incomplete information
