Te Tari Taiwhenua supports strong, effective and enduring partnerships with iwi and Māori.

Te Tira Tiriti has been established within Te Urungi, the newly established Māori, Strategy and Performance Branch of Te Tari, and is a direct measure to support people and partnerships, resultant from within Te Tiriti o Waitangi negotiations.

These positions will be anchored within Te Ao Māori.


The four roles in this newly created team are reporting to the Director, Te Tiriti and Partnerships and have various functions to firstly support mana kōrero and secondly, coordinate Te Tari Taiwhenua in meeting our Te Tiriti o Waitangi commitments.

These whenu are intertwined and are vital to our collective impact.

Kaitohutohu Matua, Māori | Principal Advisor, Māori (2)


Setting direction in our developing and communicating of organisational engagement and relationship management protocols with iwi and Māori organisations, you will lead the development of internal capability and building strategies and initiatives.


Kaitātari Kaupapa Here Matua | Senior Policy Analyst


Contributing to the development of policy mahi at Te Tari and the interpretation and impact of broader public sector Māori policies.

Understanding intent is key to this role.

Kaitohutohu Māori | Advisor, Māori
The Maori Change Programme and Te Tira Tiriti are two new whainga that were added to Te Urungi recently.

The Kaitohutohu Maori will provide direct support to these two workstreams affecting change, supporting the design and implementation of the Māori change programme, and secondly supporting the Te Tiriti & Partnerships team in the negotiation, coordination and monitoring of Te Tari Taiwhenua Tiriti commitments and obligations.


Te Tira Tiriti will oversee the obligations made to both our Iwi partners and to Māori, ensuring that the intent of those conversations is upheld.

The mahi is to make better our collective impact on partnerships and improve our organisational engagement across the motu.

  • A welldeveloped understanding and indepth knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its principles.
  • Proficiency in te reo Māori, me ona tikanga with a confidence to use both on a daily basis.
