The Primary Sector Engagement Team is a newly formed team in the Resource Use Directorate, focused on building and maintaining trusted relationships to support those in the primary sector to meet their regulatory obligations. Our aim is to build a diverse team from different backgrounds that respects and values the unique perspectives each member brings to the table, to make a positive change in our region.

This is a great opportunity to join a new team as an Engagement Specialist, working with local farmers and growers to support the implementation of Freshwater Farm Plans across the Waikato region to improve freshwater quality. Each role will be responsible for engagement with either sheep & beef, dairy, arable and horticultural industries, or specialise in behaviour change and communications.

These roles will work together to coordinate activities that influence and support the agriculture industry to promote environmental best practice and c reate opportunities to work across sectors on common goals.

**Mō te tangata | About you**

The Primary Sector Engagement Team is looking for people with working experience in the primary industries and an understanding of the challenges they face. The people we’re after will have proven success at building relationships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives.

**To be successful, you will**:

- Have an understanding of New Zealand farm systems, ideally with in-depth experience in at least one of our main primary industries.
- Have excellent written, verbal and digital communication skills.
- Be a creative problem-solver and team player.
- Have experience working in a fast-paced, and at times ambiguous, environment.
- Have a good understanding of at least one of the following: Farm planning; Farm systems; Water quality; Biodiversity; Behaviour change and effective communication of complex information.

**Mō ngā pūkenga | Qualifications and experience**
- A graduate qualification in social science, resource management, physical, environmental, or agricultural science or related field.
- Ideally, 3+ years relevant experience in a related field or role.
