Te Wānanga o Aotearoa (TWoA) has been providing transformational education opportunities to New Zealanders for 38 years. TWoA is a national education provider with more than 27,000 tauira enrolling each year.

The Director - Infrastructure, Security and Data leads multiple teams of technical experts to develop and maintain technology strategies for infrastructure, security, and data to ensure the organisation's technology systems and services are secure, delivering value and aligns with the overall business strategy.


Your focus will also be to:

  • Design, implement, and maintain of the organisation's infrastructure, security, and data systems.
  • Implement disaster recovery and business continuity plans to ensure that technology systems can be recovered in the event of a disaster.
  • Support Pouwhakahaere Taupārongo and other senior leaders to develop and execute the technology strategy that aligns with the overall business objectives of TWoA.
  • Foster relationships with vendors, identifying opportunities to grow partnerships supporting the mahi of TWoA.
  • Manage and maintain the organisation's cloud infrastructure and services.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure the security and privacy of the organisation's data based on the principles of tikanga Māori, the practices of āhuatanga Māori and the kaupapa of TWoA.

Your qualifications, skills and experience will include:

  • Bachelor or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline
  • Product / Prince2 or similar Project Management qualification
  • Passion and appreciation for all things kaupapa Māori
  • Deep leadership experience. We are looking for a leader who takes initiative, motivates, and encourages their team's growth and performance
  • Being a master collaborator who can relate and work with a wide range of people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures in a helpful, courteous and sensitive manner
  • Extensive experience across technology, security, and data. You will have expertise across the technical landscape, and enable your team to deliver
  • Experience project managing large IT infrastructure related projects
  • Confidence across risk management and developing policies and procedures related to digital security and compliance
  • Experience when considering data governance, especially how it relates to Māori


This role holds significant influence in the uepū and organisation and is waiting for someone to make it their own who will have a real impact on TWoA's infrastructure, security and data to benefit the organisation.
