About the opportunity


The OT Infrastructure Team at Fonterra is seeking a talented & experienced Systems Architect, to ensure the stability and security of our global manufacturing operations automation environment.

As a Systems Architect, you will collaborate closely with the OT Network Architect, Solution Architects and Cyber Security team, providing technology leadership and direction to OT and IT management, Control Systems Engineering personnel, and capital projects staff.


Key responsibilities will include:

  • Architect and lead the design, development & implementation of systems infrastructure supporting Fonterra's manufacturing operations, in alignment with business strategic goals and objectives.
  • Specify server, storage, desktop, and tablet infrastructure, including support licensing and hardware lifecycle management planning.
  • Identify and implement new and emerging technologies to futureproof OT Infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with the team, as well as internal and external stakeholders, to identify performance improvement areas and opportunities for enhancement.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to internal teams with regards ongoing management, monitoring, and maintenance including system upgrades, troubleshooting, and issue resolution.
  • Engage with the wider business and the Cyber team to align business requirements with OT infrastructure design.
  • Provide technical translations for a wider management audience, including design documentation for technology and architectural changes.
  • Define reference materials and Standard Operating Procedures for the implementation and management of OT Infrastructure.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and automation technologies, to streamline workloads and standardise deployment.

Skills and experience we will be looking for include:

  • Computer Science / IT diploma or degree or relevant experience (certifications: MCSA / MCSE / MCITP, VCP 6+).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a strong ability to explain technical concepts to broader audiences.
  • Automation or IT Experience in a senior support capacity.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and research complex IT/OT systems related issues, in a large onpremises environment.
  • Proven practical experience in implementing and upgrading core systems infrastructure.
  • Experience participating in the delivery & support of significant IT/OT systems projects and programmes.
  • Indepth knowledge of industrial automation & control systems (SCADA), MES systems & related technologies, & integration with IT Infrastructure.
