Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role


This role recently moved to be part of the newly formed Strategy & Integration unit with Te Poutāhū (Curriculum Centre).

The Manager, Sector Capability will lead a team that provides quality professional learning and development to the education sector.

Using knowledge and experience of building quality teaching and assessment, this position will lead on how Te Poutāhū designs and delivers equitable access to quality professional capability services.


You will achieve these outcomes by:

  • Bring an evidence-based approach to the strategic design and delivery of professional learning and development.
  • Scan the future of curriculum, and assessment to gain an understanding of the capabilities that will support inclusive and equitable teaching and learning in the future.
  • Engaging with the sector, iwi and other to understand what is working and isn't, to ensure teachers and leaders have access to well designed professional learning and development that makes a difference.
  • Managing relationships with third party providers to ensure quality provision and understanding of impact.

To be successful in this role you will be experienced in people and operational leadership within a complex environment

You will also demonstrate:

  • Experience in developing and delivering integrated functional strategies, work programmes and budgets.
  • Skills and experience in leading and managing a team of professionals and critically important stakeholders both at a programme and project level.
  • Experience building and leading inclusive and diverse teams and creating a respectful, open and responsive culture.
  • Experience in building relationships and partnerships to achieve shared outcomes.
  • The ability to coach and constructively challenge others to shift mindsets and foster collaborative action.
  • An understanding of _The New Zealand Curriculum_ and _Te Whāriki_.
  • An understanding of educational curriculum evidence that will enhance the change required.

At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whānau.

To better deliver on this, we are currently undergoing an organisational design change. The transition phase to improve the way we deliver our purpose will be complete in 2023.

We bring together curriculum, teaching expertise and evidence for the development, support and review of inclusive curricula, assessment and NCEA.

Our strengths are across te reo Māori, mātauranga Māori, disability, inclusive learning support and culturally relevant content so that Te Mahau supports learning that is inclusive for all ākonga.
