The Sector Capability Manager, Digital Assessment is responsible for leading, co-ordinating and managing the NCEA and NZ Scholarship external assessment project cycles and operational plans that relate to the establishment and management of Examination Centres for end of year examinations and the digital assessment delivery support of school-based intra-year external assessment events.

The role is responsible for developing, and leading, the annual training programmes for Examination Centre Managers (ECMs) and school staff based on a training need analysis to ensure they have the capability to effectively perform their roles in the delivery of digital assessment.

The manager will also be responsible for devising and implementing a comprehensive 'train the trainer' strategy to be used for end of year exams and school-based digital assessment.

The Manager will have responsibility for producing, implementing and reviewing the operational plan for delivery of end of year external assessment at Examination Centres and intra-year external assessment in schools.

Skills and experience

You will be an experienced, motivated and efficient adult training manager, with significant operational and/or project management experience, and a strong customer focused perspective.

You will possess the ability to measure and manage compliance, with a proven track record that shows you can identify, recommend and implement potential process and system improvements across a large externally managed workforce.


  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree, preferably with a professional adult training qualification
  • Proven work experience as an adult training manager or significant national
- scale training experience, preferably in a leadership capacity

  • Experience in operational and/or project management
  • Highlevel organisational and interpersonal skills
  • Customer focus and ability to adapt quickly
  • Knowledge of te ao Māori and a demonstrated commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
