About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Expert Forensic Mental Health Specialist to join our team at Wakari Hospital. As a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist, you will play a critical role in providing comprehensive forensic mental health services to individuals across Otago and Southland.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will have extensive experience in forensic psychiatry and intellectual disability, with a strong background in clinical leadership and patient care. You will be responsible for assessing and treating patients with complex mental health needs, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement effective treatment plans.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and treat patients with forensic adult and intellectual disability population
  • Provide clinical leadership and reliable medical input to the multi-disciplinary team
  • Maintain high standards of practice and work effectively as a senior clinician within a multidisciplinary team
  • Contribute to ongoing service improvement and workforce innovation
  • Enjoy teaching medical students and registrars through our strong links with the Otago Medical School

Requirements

  • Fellowship with the RANZCP or equivalent is essential
  • Current registration with the NZ Medical Council is ideal
  • A commitment to quality service delivery and development
  • A strong focus on recovery and user inclusion in service delivery
  • A sound understanding and commitment to biculturalism
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
