Ngā kawenga | About the role
As National Manager Māori Strategy, you will be responsible for leading the team of advisers who provide advice to the department on how best to improve outcomes for Māori and inform the departments strategic planning and direction.
The Māori Strategy team plays a key role in delivering on Hōkai Rangi and supporting our organisational goals by providing specialist advice that focuses on improving outcomes for those in our management. A key focus in this role will be to provide strong leadership and development to your team, lifting the capability and performance to ensure a high level of delivery in all areas.
You will report directly to the Director Policy, Research & Performance, within a broader Strategy and Corporate Services Group. These teams have recently been bought together to drive the provision of coherent strategic advice that supports the development, delivery and measurement of Hōkai Rangi and improved outcomes for people in our management.
Your team is based in Wellington, and some flexible working options are available. This role is fixed term for 2 years.
Mōu | About you
You will be an experienced manager and will be able to demonstrate your experience developing and leading high performing teams within a complex environment.
With excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills, you will have the ability to lead co-operative efforts, and influence to achieve positive outcomes aligned with the direction of our executive leaders. A strong understanding of strategy development and implementation is essential, and policy leadership experience would be an advantage.
You will operate with ease within Te Ao Māori, the public service and will be regarded as a natural leader.

- Proven success in building and developing high performing teams.
- Significant experience in drawing on and promoting te ao Maori perspectives at a strategic and operational level.
- Sound knowledge of criminal justice sector issues, and our political and social environment.
- Experienced in strategy development, implementation and ensuring alignment of work to that direction.

Utu ā-tau | Salary
The midpoint of the salary range is $160,813 per annum and the full range (85%-120%) is $136,692 - $192,976 per annum. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
