**Tēnei tūranga - About the Role**:
The Principal Advisor
- Māori is a leadership position within Strategy, Performance and Design (SPD) that works alongside the branch leadership team to provide high quality strategic and pragmatic advice which supports building capability and confidence of SPDs Te Ao Māori journey. The role to ensure that Te Whakatairanga Service Delivery is well positioned to deliver on the Crown’s responsibilities under Te Tiriti o Waitangi in all our regulatory systems and operational service delivery.

**The role’s responsibilities will include**:

- Supporting the General Manager by leading the development of the SPD Māori Capability and Engagement strategy, and leading a new, strategic programme of work and initiatives to deliver on this commitment.
- Supporting SPD to design and plan initiatives to enhance our capability to deliver on our responsibilities under Te Tiriti o Waitangi i.e., utilising mātauranga Māori and kaupapa Māori frameworks.
- Leading the SPD iwi engagement, including the effective liaison with and management of the Māori Advisory Committees, and upskilling of SPD people to strengthen competency in this area.
- Supporting SPD and the Pou Whakatairanga/Director Māori Service Delivery, in the development of MBIE’s strategic alliances with Māori across our systems.

- Me matatau i te reo Māori me ōna tikanga - take part in general conversation with speakers of te reo Māori, understand most of what is said and contribute relevant comments.
- Expert understanding of Crown responsibilities under Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the aspirations and needs of Māori.
- Proven demonstrated experience of advancing both Crown aspirations and the aspirations of Māori under Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
- Proven experience working in a policy and service delivery agency where partnership with Māori communities, iwi, hapū and key Māori organisations are prioritised.
- Must be a skilled writer with the ability to clearly and concisely articulate their ideas in a persuasive way.
- An ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing with a wide range of people at all levels, both internal and external to MBIE.
- A proven track record of experience and achievement in working with senior leadership teams and providing high level strategic advice in a complex environment.
- Strong systems thinking skills, able to quickly develop an understanding of context in relation to the insights required and provide strategic advice. Ētahi kōrero mō MBIE - About MBIE:
