Newly created position responsible for leading the design, professional leadership, strategic oversight and operational management of the Te Ao Māori strategy and policy for Taumata Arowai. It is a Crown entity governed by a Minister-appointed Board and advised on Māori interests and knowledge by Te Puna, a statutory Māori Advisory Group.Te Mana o te Wai, Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the Water Services Act 2021 are central to our mahi. Taumata Arowai recognises that we need to develop strong relationships and work collaboratively across the sector. Effective relationships with iwi, Māori, the wider water sector, local and central government and across Aotearoa, are essential.Our responsibilities are to protect and promote drinking water safety and related public health outcomes. We also have an oversight role in relation to the environmental performance of drinking water, wastewater and stormwater networks. Mō tēnei tūranga mahi| About the RoleThe Te Ao Māori Policy & Strategy Manager is responsible for the design, professional leadership, strategic oversight and operational management of the Te Ao Māori strategy and policy for Taumata Arowai. The Te Ao Māori Policy & Strategy Manager sits on the leadership team of the Group and works closely across this function.Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and Experience
- A tertiary degree in a relevant field is preferable, also keen to hear from those of you who have equivalent life experience.
- The ability to articulate perspectives around te ao Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
- An advance level across te reo Māori and tikanga Māori to communicate effectively in a range of situation
- Demonstrated public policy experience.
- Established networks across iwi and Māori organisations, whānau, hapū and iwi, as well as Ministers and senior officials.
- Credibility and mana to influence, build and sustain good relationships with other policy practitioners who have limited understanding of te ao Māori.
- Experience leading and developing teams in a medium to large organisation.
- Experience with the systems of government and, in particular, leading the development of operational policies, guidance, and systems to support the regulatory framework relating to Te Ao Māori and Te Tiriti.
