Wellington City, New Zealand New Zealand Government Full time

**Type**: PermanentHours: Full timeLocation: Wellington Business Group: Strategy GroupBranch: Digital Public ServiceSalary: $166,806 - $223,092
Senior leadership role
Te Tari Taiwhenua/Internal Affairs serves and connects people, communities and government to build a safe, prosperous and respected nation. We deliver value to New Zealanders in many ways - leading digital government, keeping Kiwis safe from harm, supporting strong and resilient communities, strengthening civic participation and governance, and fostering our cultural identity. In other words, we are all about helping to make New Zealand better for New Zealanders.
About us
Our public service is being called upon to deliver a unified, seamless and effective digital experience so that New Zealanders have the best possible experience of government.
Te Kōtui Whitiwhiti | Digital Public Service branch supports the Government Chief Digital Officer (GCDO) to bring about a modern adaptive public service with the skills, technology and data to operate at pace and to meet changing needs. We work with and through agencies to drive and deliver a customer-centred digital government.
About the role
We are seeking an experienced and strategic leader to join our Senior Leadership Team as the Director Strategy. Reporting to the Deputy Chief Executive, you will support change across the public service to enable a system shift to a unified digital public service.
The Director Strategy will operate at a system level (across government) to set direction and develop strategies that add value to the system. This will involve strategies that target the areas where we can maximise and optimise digital transformation in the public service, and ensuring alignment with the government's priorities.
Specifically, the Director Strategy is accountable for leading the Strategy group to develop the group's work programme and deliverables, and for establishing how the Strategy group delivers value and impact.
About you
This role will suit a strategic leader, with deep experience in system-level thinking and problem-solving to effectively address broad and complex issues. You will be familiar with emerging technologies and have in-depth understanding of digital transformation strategies. You will also be able to drive change to shape and implement the government's priorities.
**To be successful in the role you will have**:

- a proven track record of successfully leading and managing teams, fostering collaboration, and driving results (through innovation, continuous improvement and focus on achieving outcomes)
- strong strategic thinking ability and the capacity to develop long-term plans aligned with strategic goals and objectives, and proven ability to identify trends, opportunities, and risks
- interpersonal and communication skills to engage with stakeholders at all levels and influence outcomes; and proven ability to build and maintain strategic partnerships within an agency, the public and private sector, and industry groups to enhance collaboration and achieve shared goals

It goes without saying that you will have deep experience with machinery of government and the public service environment, have a proven ability to achieve outcomes and deliver to diverse stakeholder expectation, and be well-versed experienced engaging with iwi/Māori and the Crown.
We are an equal opportunity employer that values diversity and inclusion. We recognise a diverse workforce contributes to better business outcomes. We are committed to creating a workplace where all employees have equal access.
