Assistant Investigator | Kaihōpara Tuarua
Investigations & Dispute Resolution | Whakatewhatewha, Whakatau Raru Hoki
Wellington or Auckland
- Work for a forward thinking, dynamic independent Crown Entity
- Engage with compelling and developing privacy issues.
- Challenging and varied work

Privacy is precious - help us protect it
We are Aotearoa New Zealand's privacy regulator - a small, independent Crown Entity established to protect and promote individual privacy.
The role
We have a fantastic opportunity for an Assistant Investigator to join our team in Auckland or Wellington. You will play an important front-line and outreach role taking enquiries from the public about their privacy rights and from agencies about their privacy obligations, providing sound advice in a manner that is independent and neutral.
As the Assistant Investigator you play a key part in the Investigations and Dispute Resolution team notifying, investigating, resolving, and managing your own complaint file load. You will sometimes be responding to challenging issues, so resilience, strong communications (written & oral) and relationship skills are key to thriving in this role.
- have an interest in the Privacy Act and other human rights legislation. Working knowledge of the Act would be an advantage, but is not required
- have excellent communication skills, both oral and in writing, and the ability to ask the right questions to quickly obtain required information
- have strong relationship management skills and emotional intelligence to be able to effectively deal with complex behaviours and people from all walks of life
- ability to manage competing priorities with a results-oriented approach
- ability to work independently but also be a strong team player and work collaboratively with colleagues to problem-solve a variety of issues.
- an understanding of and ability to recognise and understand key Māori, disability, and other cultural and human rights concepts.

We have a supportive team environment with genuine career progression opportunities and a positive and inclusive organisational culture.
Committed to upholding the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, we work in partnership with Māori to take a te ao Māori perspective on privacy.
This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate or someone looking to take the next step in their career.
**Salary band indication**: $55k - $80k
You will need to have the legal right to work in New Zealand to be considered for this role.
