Mō te tūnga | About the role

The National Security Group (NSG) currently have an exciting opportunity for an investigator to join the Counter Terrorism Covert Online Team (CT COLT), based in Auckland.

As a COLT investigator, you will lead and support investigations.

NSG work collaboratively to mitigate threats to New Zealand’s National Security through the collection of evidence and intelligence, in order to make informed decisions about prevention strategies or prosecution to mitigate existing or emerging threats.

NSG’s primary focus is on counter terrorism and violent extremism investigations with the assistance of partner agencies.

Investigators will develop a strong knowledge and understanding of themes and drivers that facilitate extremist behaviour. The role allows for and requires flexibility in the workplace. You don’t need prior experience in the online space to apply.

**Key Accountabilities**:
A broad understanding of investigation technique e.g. analysis or criminal investigations

Solid understanding of Social Media platforms, how they operate and how people communicate on these platforms.

Demonstrates the ability to employ a varied and situational approach to communication.

Self-motivated and task focused.

Whakaritenga motuhake | Special requirements

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance.

Successful applicant must reside in Auckland.

Due to the nature of work in the covert online space and the fact investigators are exposed to graphic material, a pre-appointment psychological assessment will be completed to determine the applicants suitability to work in this area.

The minimum criteria for this level of national security clearance is:
NZ Citizen who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, or:
A Permanent Resident who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, or
A citizen of or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years : Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, or United States of America, and has a background that can be verified by the NZSIS.

Utu ā-tau | Salary

This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence between $95,057 and $100,626 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
