This role represents an exciting opportunity for a regulatory officer to join our team to respond to calls from members of the public relating to environmental incidents and potential compliance issues of the Resource Management Act 1991 and other environmental legislation.

This is a permanent and full-time position based at our Hamilton office and will form part of a busy team.

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a background in regulatory and incident response fields.

This role involves triaging complaints that come into the Incident Response team. The successful applicant will need an excellent understanding of the legislation in environmental law and how to interpret and research the same. You will need to be an excellent decision maker with a strong emphasis on environmental risk in a dynamic environment. There will also be an expectation that you can advise others in the team on best practice and technical aspects on our area of work. Previous investigative experience is essential.

**Essential**
- Excellent communication skills - written and verbal
- Strategic and tactical thinking skills
- Political awareness and skill in dealing with sensitive and confidential issues (including bi-cultural sensitivity)
- Proven success at building relationships and resolving issues with internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to deliver in a political environment that could be high pressure and rapidly changing
- Proven ability to relate to wide ranging views of customers and stakeholders
- Previous experience in compliance and legislative work.
- Can learn on the ‘fly’

**Desirable**
- Previous experience in local government
