This role represents an exciting opportunity for a person to join our team to respond to calls from members of the public relating to environmental incidents and potential compliance issues of the Resource Management Act 1991 and other environmental legislation.


This role involves attending enquiries and complaints within our Waikato region and completing all the necessary information gathering and follow-up including providing detailed written reports.

The role has plenty of variety due to the nature of the incidents we attend. There is a good mix of field and office work. The nature of the work requires our team members to be self-starters with a strong attention to detail.


This is a permanent / full time position based at our Hamilton office and will form part of a busy team.


Mō ngā pūkenga | Qualifications and experience


The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills and have a background in regulatory and incident response fields.

Previous investigative experience is essential.

Other Essential skills required:

  • A minimum of three years' operational experience in the NZ Police, or other enforcement regulatory agency
  • Excellent communication skills written and verbal
  • Strategic and tactical thinking skills
  • Political awareness and skill in dealing with sensitive and confidential issues (including bicultural sensitivity)
  • Proven success at building relationships and resolving issues with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to deliver in a political environment that could be high pressure and rapidly changing
  • Proven ability to relate to wide ranging views of customers and stakeholders
  • Can learn on the 'fly'

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in local government
