This role represents an exciting opportunity for a person to join our team and respond to calls from members of the public relating to environmental incidents and potential compliance issues of the Resource Management Act 1991 and other environmental legislation.


Other main areas of work include:

  • Responding to incidents and enquiries in a timely manner and to best practice standards.
  • Investigate and document complaints about noncompliance with the Resource Management Act and other environmental legislation.
  • Contribute, support and mentor other teams where required
  • Support the afterhours Incident Response duties.
  • Contribute to the effective functioning of the Incident Response programme
  • Manage multiple calls for service at any one time


The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills and have a background in regulatory and incident response fields.

This vacancy is a permanent / full time position based at our Hamilton office. Previous investigative experience is essential.

  • Excellent communication skills written and verbal
  • Strategic and tactical thinking skills
  • Political awareness and skill in dealing with sensitive and confidential issues (including bicultural sensitivity)
  • Proven success at building relationships and resolving issues with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to deliver in a political environment that could be high pressure and rapidly changing
  • Proven ability to relate to wide ranging views of customers and stakeholders
  • Can learn on the 'fly' and adaptable to new systems

Desirable

  • Previous experience in local government
  • Previous experience in compliance and legislative work.
