Transpower is a key enabler of New Zealand's decarbonisation journey. Our core purpose is to empower the energy future for New Zealand - a future that delivers a net-zero carbon economy and a reliable and secure electricity system.

We plan, build, maintain, and operate the electricity transmission network (the "National Grid") and operate the electricity system in real-time keeping electricity flowing through the networks from where it is generated to our customers who connect directly to the National Grid.

Our customers are local distribution businesses, generators, large industrial users like the Tiwai Aluminum smelter, and other critical infrastructure like KiwiRail. There is a growing pipeline of new connections to the Grid as new renewable generation is developed and electrification of the industrial and transport sectors accelerates. This will continue to build as we move towards a decarbonised future, with the interim goal of enabling 50% of New Zealand's energy needs from renewable sources by 2035.

**About the team**

The Customer and Commercial team, within our Strategy and Customer division, works both externally and across the business contributing to the fulfilment of Transpower's strategic objectives. They enable the timely and efficient delivery of connections for new customers as well as providing ongoing support for existing customers. This involves working enterprise-wide and closely with Grid Development (as they plan the Grid of the future) and Delivery teams (managing maintenance and projects on the grid).

**The opportunity - available due to internal promotion**

In this high profile leading-through-influence role, based in Wellington, Hamilton, or Auckland you'll collaborate internally across Transpower and externally across the sector. You'll strategically drive mutually beneficial outcomes and further develop a portfolio that includes:

- High value customers, including incumbent generators with whom Transpower has well-established long-term relationships
- International and local developers of new renewable generation seeking to connect to the grid
- Large industrial and commercial customers

Supporting the General Manager Strategy and Customer and the Head of Customer and Commercial, you'll love to strengthen relationships and seek out new opportunities by proactively identifying potential customers and projects that both new and existing customers want to deliver.

This will include building understanding of the issues impacting development of renewable generation, and the electrification of process heat and transport, and enabling the new grid connections they require. Ensuring "no surprises" both internally and externally, you'll be the voice of the customer within Transpower to ensure a customer experience which enables:

- Proactive and effective engagement on investments, pricing, outages, levels of service, risk management, and other items relating to Transpower's service that is important to them
- Effective consultation on key industry documents and regulatory processes
- A connections process with efficient cycle time and investment collateral to ensure customers have the information that they need to support their decision making

**About you**

You'll engage at pace with Senior Leaders and the Chief Executive, so you'll be known for being highly responsive, with outstanding proactive verbal and written communication.

Curiosity, critical thinking and well-developed understanding of relationship nuisances, along with exceptional emotional intelligence, will ensure you gain and maintain credibility and trust within Transpower and with your key clients.

**Underpinned by a relevant tertiary qualification, your CV and cover letter will demonstrate**:

- Knowledge / understanding of the energy sector or another relevant regulated industry
- Demonstrated ability to work in high profile commercially orientated roles
- A good understanding of Project Management stage gates. You'll work with our SMEs, Engineers and Project Managers to enable new connections to proceed, and convert opportunities to investment contracts, then work though getting the connections designed and delivered in line with customers' and Transpower's requirements. These are often large, multimillion dollar projects over several years
- Astute ability to realise potential opportunities, to both maximise and realise the mutual commercial benefits of existing relationships, and to develop new business
- Confidence working in a large organisation, leading and negotiating commercial decisions which balance cost, risk, and benefit over multiy
