We are looking for 4 students who

:

Will assist ecologists in our science and spatial information teams with biological and environmental data entry, validation, mapping and fieldwork

Are passionate about biodiversity conservation and our regional Significant Natural Areas (SNAs) and threatened native species

Have a good understanding of ecology

Have a high level of computer and ArcGIS skills and/or field monitoring experience.

Mō te tangata | About you

:

Ideally you will have an interest in biological sciences, including study specifically in ecology or spatial analysis

You are self-motivated and can demonstrate an ability to complete tasks to a high standard

You will have excellent communication skills - written and verbal and will work well both in a team and on individual tasks

Physical fitness, back country experience and a full driver's licence are an advantage for field roles.

Mō te tūranga | About the role

:

- **We are offering four roles within our science biodiversity programmes; two are focussed on data management being primarily office
-
Office-based roles will assist with collation, checking, analysis and mapping of data related to threatened species and Significant Natural Areas across the region. You will be working closely with ecologists in our science team and analysts in the spatial information team

Field-based roles will be part of a team collecting terrestrial biodiversity data across the region, including vegetation sampling, bird counts, animal pest surveys and acoustic recording devices for bat and bird detection. When not in the field, you will be assisting with planning, equipment maintenance and data entry in the office

There will be opportunities for these roles to assist scientists with varied field tasks relating to threatened species survey, forest fragment health monitoring, water quality sampling and datalogger deployment

All roles are based in our central Hamilton office.
**Each role is for 4 months, starting early November 2023 and ending 1 March 2024.
