We are looking for a student who has or is studying for a geothermal geoscience or ecology degree and is interested in all aspects of geothermal resource management, including policy and regulation.


Mō te tangata | About you:

  • Geothermal resource management is a wide discipline and we are looking for geophysics, geochemistry, geology, engineering, or applicable ecology students.
  • We want an adaptable and selfmotivated student with a strong interest in the environment and sustainable management of natural resources.
  • As we anticipate some field work in remote locations, students should be physically fit and preferably have, or be in the process of obtaining, a full New Zealand drivers licence.

Mō te tūranga | About the role:

The role requires a self-starting student with scientific and analytical skills who can assist in the development of, and undertake a supervised project regarding the use, development and protection of geothermal resources

The student will be required, with supervision, to plan a project, liaise as necessary with tangata whenua, land-owners and resource users, undertake the project including interviews, field work, and data collection

The student will be required to plan their time efficiently to ensure they have time to finish a full report on their project, including presentation and interpretation of data, including spatial data, and provide conclusions and recommendation

The project will be supervised by an experienced Waikato Regional Council geothermal scientist

The position is primarily to be based in our Hamilton office, and field work will occur within the Waikato Region, but we will consider flexible working conditions for outstanding students living outside the Waikato.
**This role is for four months, starting in early November 2023 and ending 1 March. For students with flexible return to study, extensions may be considered.
