Mō te tūranga | About the role:
This opportunity will be part of the Aquatic Ecology Monitoring Team at WRC.

You will be based in our Hamilton office, but our sites cover the whole of the Waikato region - one day you could be in the Coromandel, the next in Taupō, the King Country, or Raglan.


This position involves:

  • Assisting with the monitoring of stream invertebrates as part of the SOE programme of around 150 sites across the region during summer.
  • Calling landowners and organising site access.
  • Driving to remote parts of the region to undertake ecological surveys.
  • Long days in the field.
  • Working away from home for up to a week during the summer months.
  • Maintaining a high level of commitment to Health and Safety.
  • Data entry, loading data to databases, and quality assurance of data.
  • Cleaning and maintaining sampling gear.
  • Helping the freshwater fisheries team with fieldwork.
  • Large river survey monitoring.
  • Freshwater mussel surveys.
  • Assisting environmental monitoring and science staff with other ecosystem health projects as they arise, and associated field or office work.
  • Carrying heavy equipment reasonable level of fitness.
Being a team player, with great communication.

This role is for six months, starting in early-mid November 2023 and ending in early-mid May 2024.
