**Mō te tūranga | About the role**
- Supporting the team leader to ensure the pest plant programme is well planned, reported, and aligns with all relevant national and inter-regional initiatives.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with relevant internal teams, stakeholders, tangata whenua, community groups, and landowners.
- The strategic, tactical, and operational development of species-lead pest management plans alongside the team and contractors.
- Overseeing compliance and reporting for the Biosecurity Pest Plant programme including;
- Contractor Health and Safety management and compliance.
- Environmental Compliance to Councils EPA permission for spraying herbicide over water and WRC aquatic herbicide resource consent.
- Contract management.

**Mō ngā pūkenga | Qualifications and experience**
- Tertiary qualification or relevant experience in ecological, environmental, or project management. Science, facilitation, and relationship management skills are also desirable.
- To be considered for this position you will need to have between 8+ years' experience in project management or an environmental related field, (e.g. biodiversity restoration, pest plant control)

- WRC has regional leadership for pest management in the Waikato region. The council’s Biosecurity Strategy defines what that leadership looks like and outlines our regional biosecurity priorities. The Waikato Regional Pest Management Plan 2022-2032 is the statutory biosecurity document that sets out the rules occupiers in our region must comply with, so we can all work to protect the things we value in our region.
- The Biosecurity Team is a small team with staff based all over the Waikato region. The team managers a vast array of operational and strategic biosecurity programmes covering pest plant management, kauri protection, agricultural, biodiversity, freshwater and terrestrial.
- Reporting to the Team Leader - Pest Plants, you will also work closely alongside another Biosecurity Officer as well as two Unit Leads focused on pest plant management.
