Field Supervisor

**Mō te tūranga | About the role**
You will work closely with our Terrestrial Ecology Scientists to support the establishment of region-wide biodiversity monitoring, including logístical planning, field survey and data management.
You will lead a field team, including supporting 2 student field assistants, and work together to:
- Plan and coordinate site visits, including contacting landowners for permission to access private properties.
- Become familiar with the survey method and field H&S requirements.
- Organise PPE, data collection equipment and site information.
- Undertake relevant training as required.
- Conduct data collection in the field.
- Manage data after field work.
This role is for a fixed-term period of five months commencing around mid-October.
**Mō te tangata | About you**
- Have experience in Tier One animal and/or vegetation monitoring methodology, ideally having led a field team.
- Demonstrate a meticulous approach for collection of scientific data.
- Be able to complete tasks to a high standard whilst following relevant protocols and procedures.
- Have strong interpersonal skills with a customer focus while interacting with landowners and members of the public.
- Be familiar with Microsoft Excel and have a sound understanding of data management processes for handling and analysing large datasets.
- Have back country field skills including navigation and experience travelling over rough terrain.
- Maintain a high level of commitment to Health and Safety.

- ~2 years previous experience undertaking Tier One animal and vegetation surveys is desirable.

- You will be working closely with our terrestrial ecology scientists and several independent contractors, other key staff will include the environmental monitoring and spatial information teams.
