Hamilton, Waikato, New Zealand New Zealand Parliament Full time

As the Parliamentary Communications, Research and Policy Advisor to Tama Potaka, you'll put your high-quality communications, research and administration skills into action in this rewarding environment.

You'll be happy to work autonomously within Parliament and will be well-known for your communication skills, resilience and ability to remain calm under pressure.

This role is a varied and multifaceted one, where on any given day your responsibilities may include:

  • Developing specialist knowledge of your MPs portfolios and areas of interest
  • Supporting your member with policy research and bills
  • Using your research skills to interpret and collate data, compile statistics and produce reports
  • Organising and booking meetings, preparing agendas and taking minutes
  • Preparing briefing notes for your MP for Select Committees and the House on sitting weeks
  • Managing your MPs busy inbox, diary and coordinating travel bookings
As an employee of Parliamentary Service you will be apolitical in your role. Awareness of the political landscape may be beneficial in supporting your MP.

You'll appreciate the sometimes unpredictable nature of this environment and instead of letting it faze you, you thrive on it.

To ensure our people feel supported and enabled to grow and develop their career, you will receive a Parliamentary Service induction to set you up to succeed within this environment, as well as ongoing learning and development opportunities.

This is an events based, fixed term role linked to the MP, working 40 hours per week. Some flexibility in hours may be required.

The appointing salary band for this role is $64,954 to $89,621 per annum. Appointments will be based on your skills and experience.

Applications close 30th January at midnight.

The Parliamentary Service appoints on merit and is committed to the EEO and good employer principles.
