The Business Operations Officer is part of a team that is primarily responsible for responding to customer requests for copies of military personnel records that are made under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA), the Privacy Act 2020 (PA) and the Health Information Privacy Code 2020 (HIPC).

This includes decision-making around information to be released under specific legislation and information that must be redacted.

You will possess the ability to:

  • Deliver exceptional customer service and respond to a range of queries from stakeholders;
  • Scan and photocopy archives in response to requests made under the OIA, PA and HIPC ;
  • Assist with medals and archives administration.

You will also demonstrate:

  • A strong people and customer focus;
  • The ability to effectively communicate with diverse range of people, from military to civilian;
  • A cando, problem solving attitude with a willingness to learn and deal with ambiguity;
  • Confidence in working autonomously and as part of a small team;
  • A keen eye for detail;
  • Previous working knowledge of the OIA and PA (desired but not essential);
  • Familiarity with the Public Records Act 2005 and its associated standards is desirable;
  • Proficient use of MS Office suite (would be advantageous); and
  • Familiarity with SAP system (desired but not essential).

NZDF PAM contributes to the development of New Zealand's military heritage by providing advice on and interpretation of New Zealand military information we hold.

We safeguard the personnel files of ex-serving military, and provide information from these files to them, their families and other interested parties in accordance with New Zealand Government legislation.

The files held at Personnel Archives and Medals at Trentham Military Camp are an invaluable resource for documenting the social and military history of New Zealand.

They provide a unique record of the military service of the men and women who served our country at home and overseas.

NZDF PAM researches and establishes entitlement to medals of serving and ex-serving military personnel; and issues campaign and service medals awarded on behalf of New Zealand to entitled recipients.

We protect the integrity of medallic entitlement in accordance with the intent of Royal Warrants and Regulations approved by the Governor General and Parliament as applicable.

Every hour of every day, 365 days of the year, the New Zealand Defence Force is contributing to the defence, security and well-being of Aotearoa / New Zealand.
