Wellington, Wellington, New Zealand New Zealand Government Full time
Mō te tūnga | About the role

The Director, Information Experience and Management (DIEM) holds the responsibility for designing and delivering information experiences that are tailored to meet the needs of NZDF personnel and the broader Defence community.

This ensures that our individuals can effectively use the information essential for excelling in their respective roles, in manners that hold significance and relevance to them.

This position will also serve as the foremost authority on Information Management throughout all stages of its lifecycle within NZDF.

Leading a team of professionals, the role encompasses the collective duty of providing information experiences and managing the information lifecycle (ILM) for NZDF.

This expertise will be extended to both new and existing NZDF capabilities, ensuring their development and execution align with the unique context of NZDF as a military organization.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and Experience

We are in search of an accomplished Director who will not shy away from the ambitious task of envisioning, crafting, and implementing their mandate.

Your enthusiasm lies in influencing, and you are at ease navigating the fluidity and uncertainty that accompanies transformative change.

Your values and approach align seamlessly with our identity — how we conduct ourselves and how we aim to be perceived by our colleagues.

You are eager to join a leadership team dedicated to intent-based leadership. This commitment means offering comprehensive guidance to the Directorate as a whole, not just your specialised area.
Creating psychologically secure environments for collaborative work is something you actively cultivate. You understand the significance of leveraging diversity, innovation, and creativity to enable delivery teams to achieve their utmost potential.
You are a strong advocate for experimenting with and cultivating a variety of effective delivery methodologies. You comprehend that failure is a natural part of progress, and this mindset contributes to overall success.
Mō mātou | About Us

The NZDF Strategy positions data and information as a strategic asset and as a key enabler to operational effectiveness and the integration of the Defence Force through the provision of quality data and information for decision making.

The Knowledge and Information Management Directorate provides leadership and expertise on how the NZDF can better govern, manage and exploit its data and information for best effect.

We are also working to build our people capability to turn our Vision into reality:
Know what we know; know where to find it; value what we've found, and exploit what we value.

Every hour of every day, 365 days of the year, the New Zealand Defence Force is contributing to the defence, security and well-being of Aotearoa / New Zealand.

As a modern, professional military, it is our goal to maintain well trained, equipped and disciplined armed forces that can react to crisis at short notice.

Nōu te rourou | What's in it for you
In return for your expertise, dedication and hard work, NZDF is offering remuneration reflective of your experience, along with:

  • Great benefits for you and your family.
  • Full time ongoing work.
  • Fully funded life cover up to $300,000.

  • Discounts Handbook for selected retail, entertainment and service providers.
