Te Papa is looking for a Senior Advisor Information Management to be part of our world-leading, bicultural, cross-disciplinary museum.

Responsibilities of this position include:

  • Bringing your specialist knowledge of best practice information management to strengthen the integrity and maturity of management of information assets at Te Papa including achieving compliance with the Public Records Act and retaining awareness of emerging trends in information management.
  • Championing good information management practices across Te Papa including fostering and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders to understand and meet their needs.
  • Leading the administration and enhancement of Te Papa's Enterprise Content Management system (OpenText Content Server) Pou Mataaho, to make Te Papa's information assets easily available, discoverable, and usable.
  • Supporting the product owner of Pou Mataaho in designing the future roadmap for Te Papa's key information system.


This position is permanent, full-time position in the Information Management & Archives team (part of Collection Access group in the Collections & Research directorate), and reports to the Manager Information Management & Archives.


The IM&A team is responsible for:
- the management of all aspects of Te Papa's IM framework, policies and processes, and systems
- the delivery of IM operations
- the management and care of, and access to the Museum and Collected Archives.

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Information Management, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field. A Master's degree would be a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver a leadership role to encourage highly effective crossfunctional teams to develop, deliver, and implement information management projects and initiatives.
  • Excellent understanding of the implications of government policy and initiatives on records management; indepth knowledge of the Public Records Act (2005), the Archives NZ Information & Records Management Standard (2016), the Privacy Act and the Official Information Act
  • Expertise in managing and developing enterprise content management (ECM) systems including technical systems management, analytical skills to develop creative solutions within the information management framework, and a high level of computer literacy, particularly with cloudbased systems.
  • A good basic understanding of Māori tikanga and Treaty of Waitangi principles; appropriately use and pronouncing of Te Reo Māori commensurate with the requirements of the role.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to collaborate with staff at all levels across the institution, and with outside organisations and vendors.
  • Be able to work collaboratively in a complex and changing environment.
