Te Pou Hauora Māori | the Māori Health Directorate is a core part of Manatū Hauora. Our purpose is to act as kaitiaki (chief steward) to protect, promote and improve Māori health and wellbeing.

As kaitiaki, we continue to set the strategic direction for the health system to improve equity in Māori health outcomes and achieve pae ora, healthy futures for Māori.


We are looking for a Policy Analyst and a Senior Policy Analyst to join our Strategy and Policy team to ensure that all parts of the system are working well with and for iwi and Māori to deliver quality care in ways that enable Māori to flourish.


This includes supporting the implementation of Pae Tū:
Hauora Māori Strategy 2023 and Whakamaua: Māori Health Action Plan

The Senior Policy Analyst will lead and contribute to the development and delivery of quality policy advice, strategy development and implementation.

There will be ample opportunities for you to work through the full policy process and lead complex and challenging policy initiatives in collaboration with others to drive health system change for Māori.

You will be part of a driven, dynamic and supportive team where building trusting and productive relationships across the Ministry, health sector, government, with Māori and other stakeholders is highly valued.

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience
  • Thorough understanding of public policy and experience in policy development
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the machinery of government and political processes and structures
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to be clear and succinct in a range of settings
