Policy Analyst or Senior Policy Analyst

We are seeking a motivated and inquiring Policy Analyst or Senior Policy Analyst to join our Housing Policy Team at the Ministry of Social Development (MSD).

We are looking for committed and capable person to join us. We will provide you with a range of diverse experiences from short to long-term work. You will work both across MSD and with a range of agencies and stakeholders.

The opportunity is in a busy and interesting policy team
Affordable, safe, and stable housing is fundamental to wellbeing.

To support this, the Housing Policy Team at MSD has a focus on ensuring that vulnerable people at the lower end of the housing market have a safe and healthy place to live to build better lives.

MSD's role in housing policy includes responsibility for the provision of advice on housing-related social assistance, a focus on the lower end of the housing market and supporting MSD service delivery to improve housing outcomes and wellbeing for the most vulnerable.

We also contribute to the advice being developed by other agencies and provide second-opinion advice to our Ministers.
We work closely with a range of internal stakeholders, including our service delivery colleagues based throughout New Zealand. Our key external stakeholders include the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development and Kāinga Ora - Homes and Communities.

Skills and experience
We are keen to hear from a motivated and experienced Policy Analyst or Senior Policy Analyst.

For a Policy Analyst, the core parts of the role will include:

  • providing or contributing to advice that is clear, well-reasoned and politically neutral
- bringing together evidence to draw conclusions (eg on key issues and their root causes)
- engaging with stakeholders and the community
- working collaboratively on projects both within MSD and across agencies

For a Senior Analyst, this will include:

  • providing or contributing to advice on complex issues, with mínimal support
- building relationships and leading engagement with stakeholders, both internally and outside of the Ministry
- helping to build the capability of people in the team, including supporting junior staff on their projects
