Ko wai mātou - About Us

As part of the Ministry of Health, the Public Health Agency (PHA) has a role in fulfilling the special relationship under Te Tiriti o Waitangi through partnership with Te Aka Whai Ora (the Māori Health Authority), iwi, hapū and, Māori communities and kaupapa Māori partners.

The PHA will ensure a Tiriti led approach to population health that enables mana whakahaere in regard to Māori aspirations for health and wellbeing, enables mana motuhake so that Māori can live on their terms and according to Māori philosophies, values and practices and enables mana Māori including tikanga and kawa and encapsulated within mātauranga Māori.

The PHA is responsible for leading on all public health and population health policy, strategy, regulatory, intelligence, surveillance, and monitoring functions and for developing technical service specifications for public health programmes, that Te Whatu Ora (Health New Zealand), together with the Te Aka Whai Ora, will determine and co-commission services for.

Ko tōu ake mahi - What You'll Do

As a Senior Policy Analyst, you will collaborate with other agencies and the health and disability sector to provide expert advice aimed at improving health outcomes for all New Zealanders.

To be successful in this role, you must possess an in-depth understanding of public policy issues, including Te Tiriti and equity requirements, and have a track record of developing effective policy advice in a dynamic environment.

You will be a highly collaborative policy professional who recognises the value of data analysis and research in providing evidence-based advice.

As a skilled communicator, you will have the ability to convey complex information in a clear and concise manner that is easily understood by a broad range of stakeholders.

You will be capable of breaking down complicated problems into achievable and equitable solutions.

In addition to providing expert policy advice, you will also play a critical role in mentoring and supporting the development of junior Analysts.

You will be an open-minded learner who is committed to enhancing your written and analytical skills through your work.

At times, you will work as part of a virtual team that includes policy, operational, and clinical stakeholders across the Ministry and the sector.

You will have a good understanding around the machinery of government and are able to collaborate effectively to achieve shared objectives.

A background in health is not necessary for this role; rather, your ability to provide high-quality policy advice will be the key to your success.
