Our HR Business Partner's lead the provision of strategic people and workforce advice and initiatives to senior leaders and business groups within their portfolio.

Working through the wider People Capability team you would also manage the delivery and quality of HR advice and services to managers within their portfolio.


You would be responsible for aligning practice within each business Group to support and deliver the Ministry's people strategy outcomes - He Huarahi Pai - whilst meeting business objectives.


A key strategic leadership position that provides direction and leadership to Deputy Secretaries and business group leadership teams, this role is also a member of the People Capability Leadership team providing support to lead a professional and future focused team that is always challenging itself to be a leader in new ways of working.

Mōhou ake | About you


We are looking for someone who brings business understanding, strategic workforce capability and a depth of HR experience when working in partnership with senior managers and leaders to build business group specific implementation of the initiatives within the Ministry People Strategy and frameworks.

You will enjoy developing effective working relationships and builds credibility with customers at all levels, team members, and colleagues in order to provide high level advice and achieve results.


You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori.

You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.

At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whanau.

To better deliver on this, we are currently undergoing an organisational design change. The transition phase to improve the way we deliver our purpose will be complete in 2023.
