The People and Capability Directorate


The People and Capability Directorate provides HR support for managers to our NZRC people, from onboarding to growing capability and all aspects of the HR life cycle.

While focussed primarily on supporting employees, it also works closely with the Membership and Volunteering Directorate and Health, Safety and Wellbeing Team to provide a consistent and positive employment experience for all our people.


Senior HR and ER Advisor/Business Partner


The Senior HR/ER Advisor is a key role that will partner with people managers to lift capability and support the organisation in achieving its strategic goals.

This role provides specialist HR support and advice to managers throughout New Zealand Red Cross.

Permanent Fulltime Role

To be successful in the position, you will:

  • Sound background of experience in generalist HR
  • A good understanding of New Zealand employment landscape and knowledge of Employment Relations Act, Holiday Act
  • Ability to create, implement, manage, and improve services with an orientation for opportunities to enhance the employee experience Strong consulting and influencing skills and can build trusted relationships where you are considered a true business partner
  • Highly effective communication skills, both oral and written,
  • A proactive problem solver with a pragmatic approach to business partnership
  • Happy to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to work in a complex environment dealing with ambiguity and across departmental functions
  • Strategic in your thinking but peoplefocused in your execution, and you have the ability to educate and influence leaders to follow suit
  • Attention to detail and completion of an appropriate amount of work
  • Knowledge of remuneration frameworks, employee benefits
  • Empathy with humanitarian causes

Expectations from the role

  • Provide direct HR support covering the full range of HR disciplines to managers at all levels within NZRC
  • Mentor and coach less experienced team members on HR and Employment Relations issues
  • Identify and raise any issues that may have an impact on the organisation, its people or its reputation
  • Provide timely and professional HR advice and solutions appropriate to your business needs and issues, covering the core HRM functions, but not limited to:
  • Workforce Planning; Recruitment and Induction;
  • Learning and Development;
  • Individual Work Performance and Development;
  • Performance Management;
  • Remuneration and Recognition;
  • Employee relations/legislation;
  • Health and Safety; and all HR policies and procedures
  • Build partnerships with external stakeholders to enhance support and cooperation to achieve results
  • Contribute to the development of human resource plans in accordance with HR Policy
  • A good understanding of New Zealand employment law, particularly the Labour Relations Act and the Public Holidays Act
  • Support managers in using sound HR methodologies, tools, and advice to achieve business results
  • Support managers to ensure that all legal, statutory, and contractual requirements about people management are met
