Toi Ohomai delivers quality vocational education and training to both domestic and international students, across five main campuses in Rotorua, Tauranga, Taupō, Tokoroa and Whakatāne, and numerous delivery sites across the Bay of Plenty and South Waikato.
Toi Ohomai is now a division of Te Pūkenga - New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology and part of a transformational change unifying all 16 Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics across Aotearoa; together with other work-based, provider-based and online learning. Collectively we will be NZ’s largest tertiary education provider with national and regional reach enabling learners and employers to move seamlessly between workplaces, other educational offerings and locations as their needs change.
The Tokoroa Regional Engagement Facilitator is a member of the wider Student Support Services Team. The role aims to improve student retention, completions and achievement in a specified regional area. The role focusses on facilitating improved tauira engagement, by reducing non-academic and learning barriers whilst maintaining the integrity, independence and mana of the tauira.
More specifically the Regional Engagement Facilitator will;
- Deliver a service to tauira that supports enhanced engagement through reducing non-academic barriers to improve wellbeing and achievement
- Facilitate tauira development of academic learning skills
- Identify and work with tauira identified at risk of non-successful completion of their programme of study
- Develop and maintain meaningful relationships with staff, community and tauira to effectively facilitate enhanced engagement, and reduce both non-academic and academic learning barriers
- Develop external partnerships with a range of relevant services and resources beneficial for supporting tauira to achieve positive outcomes
- Where appropriate, facilitate the embedding of engagement and retention practices within various learning environments of Toi Ohomai
- Provide connections for tauira dealing with hardship.
Key to your success in this role will be your:
- Knowledge of appropriate professional ethics and boundaries
- Experience in developing, facilitating and implementing positive learning initiatives
- Experience working with diverse communities
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships
- Delivery of culturally sensitive and responsive services to students
- Effective interpersonal relationships
- Degree in Humanities area or other relevant field
- Experience working in a similar role is desirable, but not essential
