About the role

The Prevention Strategy Team within Iwi and Communities is looking for their next Advisor to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an energetic, passionate, goal-achieving team and work on uplifting the wellbeing of our diverse communities in New Zealand. This will also be an opportunity to work collaboratively with a wide range of teams across PNHQ and districts including Prevention, Māori, Ethnic, and Pacific Partnership teams, Programme teams (Te Pae Oranga and Te Raranga), and the wider business to influence positive change across the organisation.

This position will be best suited to a motivated, highly skilled and experienced person looking to work on building their professional development as an Advisor. You will need to have good attention to detail, critical thinking, analysis skills and passionate about wanting to make a difference in future policy and service delivery of Police and the wider Justice Sector. The successful applicant will work to support the Prevention Strategy team who are invested in providing cultural leadership, strategy development, policy review to improve the wellbeing of our Maori, Pacific and Ethnic communities.

In this role you will be working on a variety of exciting initiatives such as
- Being part of a team that develops strategies that align to our Business for partnering with our communities to enable prevention and positive change within our communities.
- Working with external stakeholders and other government agencies to influence policies and provide a voice for our communities to elevate their wellbeing.
- Honoring and uplifting the understanding of Police’s commitment to Māori and the Treaty.
- Working with Prevention, Te Raranga, Te Pae Oranga and Engagement teams to improve our service delivery and positive outcomes within our communities.
- Building high standards of cultural competency within Police
- Building effective relationships with a variety of internal Police teams and external partner government agencies to provide appropriate advice and leadership on how to best support our communities
- Enabling our staff to collaborate with our Māori, Pacific and Ethnic communities to increase their trust and confidence in Police by delivering initiatives that make our communities feel valued and listened to.

**Key Accountabilities**:

- Cultural confidence and an understanding and appreciation of cultural competency and awareness
- A positive state of mind and the alignment of your values to ours including a commitment to Maori and the treaty
- Appreciation of the diversity of cultures and background
- Decision Making - Having the critical thinking and problem-solving skills to make sound decisions on behalf of those you represent
- Communication - Have the verbal and written skills to effectively communicate with our people, partners and community
- The ability to build and manage relationships, internally and externally and at all levels
- Knowledge and understanding of tikanga Māori and Te Ao Māori will be a valued skill as relationships with iwi and Māori is a key part of this role
