Te Aka Whai Ora - Māori Health Authority is a newly established independent statutory entity responsible for enabling greater Māori participation in the design and delivery of health services for the betterment of all. This will be achieved by embedding the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi as central components of Aotearoa New Zealand's health reform.
Te Aka Whai Ora will play an essential role in enhancing Māori rangatiratanga, ensuring everyone has the equitable access to healthcare and supporting whānau to take control of their own health and wellbeing. Te Aka Whai Ora will work in partnership with Manatū Hauora - Ministry of Health and Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand and enable Iwi-Māori Partnerships Boards (IMPBs), Māori health providers, iwi, hapū and Māori communities to achieve Māori health aspirations.
Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
The Oranga Hinengaro group is responsible to lead the mental health and addiction wellbeing approach for Aotearoa, to improve equity for all and to improve the experiences and outcomes of whānau Māori within mental health and addiction services.
This role will require effective collaboration with Suicide Prevention Office, Te Whatu Ora, Manatū Hauora, Iwi Māori Partnership Boards, health service providers, and our whānau and hapori.
You will provide expert advice towards suicide prevention strategies and in particular for Māori which includes alignment or direction towards He Tapu te Oranga o ia Tangata - Suicide Prevention Strategy 2019-2029.
Mōu | About you
You will have experience partnering with external agencies where you will have been able to influence strategy, policy, regulation and workforce development.
You will be able to lead engagement with clear consideration towards valuing iwi and Māori in general to be kaitiaki of their own identity, language and culture.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

**Ideally you will have**:

- Knowledge and experience of suicide prevention approaches and methodology
- Experience in working in a Māori cultural context and have a competent working ability with te reo Māori, tikanga and kawa
- Experience managing interfaces with national or local agencies, maintaining high level relationships with contractual counterparties, local government etc
