About the Role

The purpose of this role is to provide quality specialist psychiatry services across Inpatient, Community, and Addictions teams, to support clients of the service alongside our skilled Nursing and Allied Health staff and covers acute care and on-call work. The Mental Health and Addiction Services is located on the Timaru Hospital campus and is where this role is based.

The ability to maintain good working relationships with colleagues from all disciplines is essential.

We are seeking an experienced Psychiatrist who is eligible for Vocational Registration with the NZ Medical Council and/or a Fellow of the Australasian College of Psychiatrists (or equivalent).

Additionally, we are seeking someone who demonstrates:

  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth.
  • Experience in projects/initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principles and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.

Why Timaru and the South Canterbury Region?

We are the best big little city you will find, located on the coast and Caroline Bay, with the majestic Southern Alps in the background. Timaru is an easy place to live, family-friendly and with easy access to an array of outdoor activities – beaches, ski fields, lakes, mountains, and hiking tracks.

Free parking and an easy commute to work really helps with true work-life balance
