We have an important role in supporting the Crown in its relationships with Māori under te Tiriti o Waitangi | the Treaty of Waitangi. The government is committed to improving services and outcomes for Māori and strengthening the Crown's relationships with Māori.

Our responsibilities include designing community-based care systems, developing and implementing system development plans, and monitoring for improved outcomes. Key priority health outcome areas include improving equity, whanau and tangata whaiora health status, and the mental wellness of our communities. Monitoring and measuring outcomes will inform future system designs. We collaborate closely with our Te Whatu Ora life course leads to shape comprehensive regional health services.

As a Service Development Advisor within the Te Wai Pounamu Mentally Well team, you will support our team across various portfolios utilizing your life and health sector or allied experience, and project management skills and expertise.

You will hold trusting relationships with Māori, health service providers, clinicians, and the broader community to address strategic and operational delivery challenges, ultimately enhancing the experience of Tangata Whaiora and Whanau when in need of mental health and addiction support and services.

Your role will involve leading negotiations with community partners, and collaborating with partner organizations and services, to collectively drive initiatives for service and system improvements.

Our name, Te Whatu Ora, means ‘the weaving of wellness'. Whatu is the combining of people, resources, organisations, thoughts and actions for the betterment and wellbeing of all. Whatu is also a direct reference to the pupil of the eye, and the vision required of the new entity and system.

We are working towards a system that better meets the complex demands of a growing population, addresses the persistent inequalities experienced by Māori and ensures improved access, experience and outcomes for those traditionally not well served by the system - Māori, Pacific and Disabled People.
