Te āhuatunga a te tūranga | About the Role

The purpose of the Principal Advisor Māori - Kaitohutohu Matua Māori, is to work within the Te Ao Māori team who are responsible for the overall success of NZIC's Māori capability and the embedding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles across the system.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

An extensive skill set in implementing a Māori strategy and leading organisational change
Expert understanding of Crown responsibilities under te Tiriti o Waitangi and the aspirations and needs of Māori
Skilled in delivering strategic programmes of work preferably in the public sector, project or programme management
Proficiency in te reo Māori me ōna tikanga with a passion for inspiring others to embrace te ao Māori and mātauranga Māori
Experience partnering with Māori communities, iwi, hapū and key Māori organisations
The experience to effectively manage internal and external stakeholders through trust, advocacy, and collaboration, with skills in the management of complex sets of relationships with tact and diplomacy
The proven skills to empower and enhance the mana of others
Experience in policy design is highly desirable

To be eligible for employment within the NZIC you must have been a NZ citizen for at least 10 years. Alternatively you must hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and ideally have been a citizen of UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years.
