This is a permanent position in a central govt. agency that values innovation and fresh ideas. You will work at a system-level as a Principal Advisor, working to improving conditions for Māori, with and by Māori. This role does need to be Wellington-based and is not suitable for remote working, or other locations.

Both a leadership and an operational role, you’ll be partnering with key stakeholders, and building a well-connected platform in the Ministry that includes these stakeholders and upholds Kaupapa Māori practises. The work sits within a particular sector, but affects all Māori (pls contact us for more info about the sector/hiring org). The organsation values diversity and has great flexible working options.

Key requirements:

- Sound knowledge of Te Ao Māori, Tikanga, Te Reo, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- Principal Advisor level experience gained in a government agency
- Willingness and ability to provide thought leadership, and to be hands-on
- Analysis skills
- Strong relationship skills and writing skills (ie, Briefings to the Minister)
- Development capability experience, to coach and mentor the team
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and be adaptable to changing work priorities
