Ngā kawenga | About the role
Our Organisational Resilience and Safety group's main goal is to make Ara Poutama, Department of Corrections better equipped to handle essential tasks effectively, even in unexpected situations. It aims to improve our ability to foresee and manage risks while also learning from past mistakes. Rather than just adding more rules, the focus is on providing clear guidance that supports meaningful work and prioritises safety.
This role provides support to executive and senior leaders to ensure their business groups operate safely and resiliently. Responsibilities include assessing critical organisational risks, supporting strategic improvement plans, promoting a culture of accountability for risk management and safety, and sharing insights with operational teams.
As Director you will lead strategy and people and embed the business partnering model, this is your opportunity to play a key role in setting up a function.
This role covers our Lower North/Southern Regions, from the East Coat of Bay of Plenty to the lower South Island. Regular travel around the region would be required, and location can be discussed at time of interview.

You are an experienced risk, resilience and/or health and safety senior leader who has managed business partnering activities within a large and complex environment. You connect deeply with Ara Poutama Department of Corrections' core values and can confidently lead significant change while remaining attuned to day-to-day operations.
As a senior Resilience & Safety professional, you bring a high level of technical knowledge in contemporary, systems-based approaches and practices, and can actively coach your team and stakeholders in best practice.

**You will bring the following in your kete**:

- Experience transforming organisational practices to reflect contemporary, systems-based approaches.
- Proven ability to effectively challenge, and move organisations away from, compliance-based mindsets and approaches to risk, health and safety, assurance and learning from events
- Confidence in providing a compelling, ambitious vision of the future that gains buy in from others
- Exceptional attention to detail and advanced communication skills, with ability to communicate complex issues in a straightforward way to a range of stakeholders and audiences
- A Relevant tertiary qualification in risk, organisational resilience, and/or health and safety, or continuous professional development in these areas

Utu ā-tau | Salary
The midpoint of the salary range is The mid-point of the salary range is $219,493 per annum and the full range (85%-120%) is $186,570- $263,392 per annum. Remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
