Mō tēnei tūrangi mahi | About this role
The Ministry for the Environment is charged with leading work to transition Aotearoa New Zealand to a climate resilient, low emission and circular economy. We lead New Zealand's climate response at a system level.
Over the past two years, we've laid the foundation for Aotearoa New Zealand's response to climate change. We have successfully established and operationalised New Zealand's climate change architecture and delivered some critical pieces of work, including New Zealand's first Emission Reduction Plan and the National Adaptation Plan. Now, we must ensure that we are set up to deliver the change that Aotearoa needs.
Following a recent review of our operating model, we are looking for three directors to join us on a permanent basis. We are seeking dynamic, courageous and creative thinkers to provide strategic leadership of the Climate Business Group including successful delivery of our climate work programme. The three roles are:
- Director Markets: Leading our emissions pricing policy, ETS policy, international markets, market development, assurance and operations programmes;
- Director Strategy & Mitigation Policy: Leading our longer-term, whole of system strategy, targets and emissions budgets, emissions reduction plan, and system implementation of the Carbon Neutral Government Programme;
- Director Governance, Evidence & Insights: Leading the group-wide governance and oversight of the climate work programme together with the data, evidence and insights function to ensure the system has authoritative and accessible information.
These are thought-leadership roles where you will provide fresh, innovative thinking and operational experience to lead this fast-paced, critical work programme.
The Director role reports to the Deputy Secretary and is a member of the Ministry's Senior Leadership Team. It is expected that Directors at MfE will be flexible to work across other areas of the Ministry as business or development needs are required.
