This exciting role will see you working with Pacific Island countries and other stakeholders on complex policy issues and development projects to maximise the labour mobility opportunities New Zealand offers.

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

As Senior Adviser, Labour Mobility, you will play a transformational role providing strategic and policy advice on Pacific labour mobility developments and programmes. The role contributes significantly to shaping Aotearoa New Zealand’s contribution to Pacific resilience and the livelihood of Pacific families and communities, helping to deliver International Development Cooperation and policy initiatives related to labour mobility in the Pacific region. The work is fast moving, high profile and evolving. You will work across the Ministry and with multiple government agencies, and engage with industry and employers in New Zealand and Pacific governments to enhance labour mobility outcomes.

**Work in this area includes**:

- Supporting Pacific agencies to manage sustainably their participation in labour mobility.
- Overseeing the next phase of New Zealand’s ‘Strengthening Pacific Labour Mobility’ and ‘RSE Worker Training Programme (Vakameasina)’ development programmes to lift our support for worker and family well-being, worker preparation and effective worker reintegration back home.
- Ensuring Pacific priorities and interests are understood by relevant New Zealand government agencies and domestic stakeholders.

The Senior Adviser, Labour Mobility, will play a unique role in New Zealand’s Development and policy initiatives to enable Pacific countries to maximize New Zealand’s labour mobility opportunities.
- Stragetically lead on definition and delivery of New Zealand’s Pacific labour mobility policy priorities.
- Work with Pacific partners and represent New Zealand at regional labour mobility meetings in the Pacific.
- Provide direction for New Zealand’s labour mobility development programmes to make a real difference for Pacific families and communities.
- Provide oversight for policy officers working on labour mobility and immigration issues.

The full salary range for this role is min $121,043 to midpoint of $142,403 total remuneration, negotiable depending on skills and experience and is inclusive of 3% KiwiSaver employer contribution.

- a strong understanding of Pacific labour mobility and/or immigration issues and a clear appreciation of approaches that can sustainably support the ambitions of Pacific partners.
- understanding of the key challenges facing developing countries and the role that effective development assistance plays in supporting priority issues for the Pacific.
- excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- demonstrated coaching and mentoring skills.

Ideally you will also have a good understanding of tikanga (Māori customs and protocols), with the ability to weave te ao Māori (the Māori worldview) into your work.
