Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role
As an Adviser / Senior Adviser for the Aquatic/Marine area in the Risk Assessment group, you will focus on providing evidence-based advice on aquatic animal health and marine risk.

**In this role, you would have the opportunity to**:

- Help people understand the biosecurity risks and make appropriate decisions when importing products from overseas
- Contribute to protecting the domestic biosecurity of New Zealand
- Be part of a multi-disciplinary team that supports the New Zealand Biosecurity system
- Provide science-based advice on diseases to inform decision-makers across MPI

Mōu - About You
To be successful in this role, you will ideally hold a tertiary qualification in Aquatic/Marine Sciences or equivalent, or commensurate industry experience.
- Knowledge of NZ marine environment and/or aquaculture industry
- Experience in gathering, managing, and presenting scientific information to a range of different audiences, both technical and non-technical
- High level analytical and evaluation skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
- The ability to learn new skills and thrive on new challenges

The risk assessment group sits within the Animal and Plant health directorate of Biosecurity New Zealand. Our directorate is responsible for managing the pre-border part of New Zealand's biosecurity. We also support border and post-border activities around surveillance, readiness, incursion response and the development of Government-Industry Agreements. The Animal Risk Assessment team provides animal and aquatic biosecurity risk assessments and science advice to support risk management decisions made by MPI.
