**Job Title**: Senior Adviser Biosecurity Response
**Role type**: Permanent, full time
**Salary range**: $96,073 to $112,321 depending on skills and experience
Korero mō te Tūranga - About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Adviser, who is passionate about biosecurity, can provide well-reasoned advice from proven experience, and can contribute to, manage and deliver biosecurity responses to achieve agreed response objectives.
In addition to delivering within complex biosecurity responses, you will actively contribute to response readiness, contribute to Response Group work plans, and work collaboratively across boundaries to provide high quality advice on a range of activities, products, and initiatives to improve MPI's response performance.
The Response work programme involves engaging with Treaty partners, other government agencies, key Government Industry Agreement partners, and contracted providers of field services. You will contribute to the realisation of the Readiness and Response strategy, team outcomes, and be involved in work related to continual improvement across the Readiness and Response Services Directorate.
About the DirectorateReadiness and Response Services is a directorate that sits within Biosecurity New Zealand and is responsible for bringing together critical capability to effectively prepare for, and manage responses, and to co-ordinate recovery and long-term management activities, as well as compensation resulting from actions taken to manage biosecurity incursions to those economically impacted. As a directorate we work across biosecurity, food, primary production and trade systems.
Mō tō mātou Rōpū About our Team
The Biosecurity Response Teams deal with incursions of new-to-New Zealand organisms and diseases that could threaten New Zealand's economy, environment, social and cultural values, and human health. Our teams are accountable for delivery of effective responses under the Coordinated Incident Management System (CIMS) framework and work across MPI, with Treaty partners, other government agencies, and Government Industry Agreement (GIA) partners.
We have three biosecurity response teams of 4-5 Advisers and Senior Advisers, each reporting to a Team Manager. The teams work closely with each other providing support and facilitating collaboration, mindful of the challenges we face working in a fast paced, and often ambiguous work environment.
Mōu - About You
To be successful in this role there are a few things you'll need to have, and few things which would be an advantage to you. You'll have project management experience and had time working in an emergency response environment. You might come from another Govt department, or perhaps a regional or local council.
**You'll need**:
- A suitable technical science qualification - plant pathology, animal health or veterinary medicine being preferred.
- Genuine resilience as you'll work in an ambiguous environment with pressure
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders
This is a senior role, so some informal leadership is expected. It'll be to your advantage if you have experience mentoring or leading others. However, you may be at a point in your career where you're looking to step up into a senior role, and confident to adapt and navigate your way in this space quickly.
