The Auckland Light Rail team is seeking a Senior Policy Adviser to support the Ministry's role in the Auckland Light Rail project, one of the biggest infrastructure investments in Aotearoa New Zealand. This is a unique role where you will be given a significant opportunity to grow and progress your career, alongside working on high profile and challenging issues across the transport system.
In the Senior Policy Adviser role, you will provide high quality policy advice to Ministers and project Sponsors on matters including delivery, operating and ownership arrangements, regulatory changes, integrating investment with the government's wider urban development activities, and strategic insights into the progress of the ALR programme. The Ministry also leads on establishing and maintaining the governance and monitoring arrangements needed to deliver the project and its various outcomes.

**In this role you will have the opportunity to**:

- work closely with senior officials to develop and shape the delivery of high-profile policy issues working closely with other ministries, consultants and external stakeholders
- help develop how New Zealand delivers, owns and operates new transport infrastructure
- provide leadership on legislative implications of entity arrangements
- be exposed to development, assurance and monitoring of key aspects of a major infrastructure project
- help assess the detailed business case for ALR
- draw links with other work across the Ministry to manage opportunities and risks for policy work on ALR

As a Senior Adviser, you'll lead projects that have a real impact on the lives of New Zealanders and will be working with senior stakeholders, which may include Ministers and Select Committees.
You will join us from a background where you've gained solid experience in leading and steering projects, problem-solving complex policy issues, assessing options, and writing advice for Ministers. You'll be someone who can take all the information on an issue, analyse its facets, and decide on a direction. You will understand legislative and regulatory processes and how to interpret legislation in a policy context.
